Who am I?

Hi! I’m Erin. I’m 28, a new homeowner, lover of music, design, and all things creative. I live in central PA and am working on living a healthier and more fulfilling life.

I’ve struggled with my weight since I was about 12 or 13. I didn’t realize that I was bigger than my friends until a neighborhood boy told me that I had “big legs.” That stuck with me.

I used to be an athlete. Not a good one, but still an athlete. I ran cross country in high school and could easily run 5+ miles and a sub-30 minute 5k with no problem. After 3 years of running, a hip injury sidelined me. That’s when the steady weight gain began.

I was still fairly active – I was a thrower on the track team – but my binge eating was getting out of control. In college, despite participating in both indoor and outdoor track, I gained weight. By my sophomore year, I abandoned track and my weight ballooned.

I’ve tried every diet – NutriSystem, Medifast, Atkins, South Beach. I’ve tried Weight Watchers more times than I can count. I seriously considered gastric bypass in 2006, but my insurance company wouldn’t approve it. In 2008, I had a massive pulmonary embolism caused by birth control, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, and a (then unknown) blood clotting disorder. I almost died. Yet, it wasn’t enough for me to get it together.

In the past few years, I’ve watched many of my friends get married and have babies, but I’ve never even had a real boyfriend. I’m tired of my world getting smaller because I’ve gotten bigger.

It’s got to stop. This is my year.

I’ll also be blogging about the joys of home ownership, home improvement, music, pop culture, cooking, and just life in general.

Thanks for stopping by, and please check back regularly!
